Microsoft has recently released a Teams room update 4.11.12.0. The update comes packed with new audio and video features in the Teams rooms.
Coming from the Tandberg/Telepresence background, I am always excited to see what's there in the Video enabled Meeting room segment. MTRs have come a long way in providing an immersive experience to users no matter where they are and this was clearly seen with the features rolled out in the new MTR update.
Let's look into a few of them:
Front Row layout: This is a great capability. With Users working remotely using different types of devices to join Teams meetings, this feature will provide a great meeting experience. All the participants will now be at the bottom of the screen in the gallery view so in-room participants can see remote participants face-to-face across a horizontal plane.
Admins can set this layout as default.
Meet Now: Meet now support for Teams Rooms on Windows. This will enable users to create ad-hoc meetings and invite participants in the meeting. The change brought all P2P and group calling functionality under calling application
Multi-camera support: This features enable participants in MTRs to switch between multiple video camera during the Teams meeting. Admins can set default for the camera in MTRs.
Cortana Updates: Cortana voice activation will be enabled by default however admins can turn the setting to off. There is also a Cortana push-to-talk icon update on the MTR console. The icon will be changed to Cortana avatar from a mic icon
Azure AD Changes: Azure AD Premium 1 license inclusion in Room Standard and Premium SKUs. AAD conditional access policies support for Teams Rooms is now available based on device compliance status.
Other features released in January 2022:
Teams Casting from a mobile device: For quick ad-hoc sessions that don't need a formal meeting, people can use Teams Casting to wirelessly connect to a Teams Room on Windows and display content from their mobile phones.
Lots of features coming in MTRoA too. Keep watching!
